Leaf Spring Center Pin Replacement

Jeep Wrangler CJ, YJ and Cherokee XJ run leaf springs. Leaf spring centering pins locate the rear differential to the springs correctly. Notice I didn’t say center the differential to the springs because Cherokee XJ springs are not centered, they are actually offset by about 4″ off center.

Not only do the centering pins locate the differential, they also hold the leaves together and prevent them from sliding out. Yes, some will argue that the U-Bolts and spring plates do that. But the fact is without the centering bolts, the springs will still slide, even with all that pressure from the U-bolts.

On my Project Rust Rust Bucket I am running Jeep Cherokee leaf springs for added stretch. They are overall longer and like I mentioned above they have a 4″ offset from center. Problem is that the XJ leaves are set up for SOA (spring over axle). I needed SUA (springs under axle). So means I needed new centering pins to mount the 8.8 axle on the side needed.
